Travertine’s soft creamy hue and classical feel make it a popular choice for floor tiles and bathrooms. Travertine can be identified by the tiny pitted holes in its surface, formed by steam or water during its formation. These can be filled or unfilled before installation. Travertine is formed when the water from hot springs evaporates, creating mineral deposits. The Colosseum ;is the largest building in the world constructed mostly of travertine. Other notable buildings include the ;Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris and the 20th-century Getty Center in Los Angeles.
